470 European Championship - Wind finally showns at the race course to save the Championship |
BREST, FRANCE-(14-7-2003) As hoped for and as expected earlier today, the wind entered the race course at the 470 European Championship in the late afternoon, Sailors got onto the water to do what they have been waiting for during the last 48 hours.
At the Women’s Gold Fleet course, Natalia Dufresne / Sandra Azon (ESP) won the first race, followed by Christina Bassadone / Katherine Hopson (GBR). At the Men’s Fleet it seems like Paul Foerster / Kevin Burnham (USA) have taken the lead, however this cannot be confirmed at this time.
At this moment (7pm) the second race is going on in a light breeze of approx. 8 knots.
The wind is very shifty and sailors have to deal with a strong current, which makes the conditions for sailing very difficult.
Having this second race today gives the Organizing Authorities and sailors some time to relax because the minimum for a valid Championship has been reached.
Tomorrow will be the last day of racing to conclude the 470 European Championship 2003, hopefully with enough wind to strengthen the serie in number of races.
Today’s results are to be expected soon.
